Statement

Though I began my art journey as a hyper-realistic portrait painter, I have slowly transitioned into a more abstract mode of working since pursuing my BFA. My interests as an artist lie in what painter Alexandria Rubinstein describes as, “learning to identify feelings and channel that rage and resentment into the work.” Reflecting on my emotions towards concepts like the patriarchy, childhood trauma, and grief, I navigate my compositions through color and non representational forms. As of late, I have been deconstructing topics regarding memory, specifically in regards to childhood trauma and dissociation. My recent paintings explore how my perspectives on specific childhood memories have changed as I’ve transitioned from adolescence into adulthood.
